Replacement BMU at 199 Bishopsgate London

Principle Contractor:

Como Group.

Refurbishment of 199 Bishopsgate; including structural alterations, lift upgrade, 10 floors of Cat A fit out, new entire services throughout, new reception to Cat B, new glazing to façade and roof screen extension.

The BMU:

Whilst the existing BMU was fully operational, the reason for the upgrade was to bring the system up to the current EN1808 standard.

Scope of Works:

  • A replacement BMU type 3/900 BMU.
  • Refurbishment of track guide rail.
  • New track electrics.
  • Replacement and refurbishment of several life lines.

The installation of the replacement BMU was undertaken using a 100t mobile crane, which required a part road closure of Primrose Street, with full traffic management.  The contract lift was supplied and managed under Cento Engineering and overseen by Specialist Contract Lifting Ltd.

Situated under Primrose Street Road is Liverpool Street Railway Station; great planning and consideration of the crane position was given prior to the lift as in certain places the road was only 150mm thick.
